2007 On-Property Sale
Stud breeders from Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia vied with commercial wool breeders for rams at this year’s Wallaloo Park Merino ram sale held on property at Marnoo last week. However it was New Zealanders Willie and Susan Macdonald from Middle hurst Station at Blenheim who won a bidding duel for the $17,000 top priced ram.
This is the sixth year in succession that the Macdonald’s have bought Wallaloo Park rams to use in their 550 stud ewe flock and 4500 commercial ewes. However this is the first time they have bought in their own right. The Macdonald’s said the 108 kg,WP265 sired ram, that tested 19.4 micron had an SD of 3.2, a CV of 16.2 and a 99.5% CF, would provide an ideal outcross in their breeding program.
Wallaloo Park principals, John, Jenny and Trent Carter said the sale result of 92 rams selling for a $2646 average was wonderful given the seasonal conditions across much of southern Australia.
