2007 On-Property Sale

Stud breeders from Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia vied with commercial wool breeders for rams at this year’s Wallaloo Park Merino ram sale held on property at Marnoo last week. However it was New Zealanders Willie and Susan Macdonald from Middle hurst Station at Blenheim who won a bidding duel for the $17,000 top priced ram.

This is the sixth year in succession that the Macdonald’s have bought Wallaloo Park rams to use in their 550 stud ewe flock and 4500 commercial ewes. However this is the first time they have bought in their own right. The Macdonald’s said the 108 kg,WP265 sired ram, that tested 19.4 micron had an SD of 3.2, a CV of 16.2 and a 99.5% CF, would provide an ideal outcross in their breeding program.

Wallaloo Park principals, John, Jenny and Trent Carter said the sale result of 92 rams selling for a $2646 average was wonderful given the seasonal conditions across much of southern Australia.

  • Another repeat client Nardoo Development Company from Cassilis outlaid sale second top price of $13,000 for a 19.3 micron ram sired by WP 584.
  • David and Karen Ridgeway of Bordertown outlaid $7500 and $3500 for rams and the Bella Lana Merino stud from Dripstone, NSW. paid $7500 for one ram.
  • Kim and Robin Cartwright of Laggan NSW paid to a top of $6250 for three rams.
  • The Kerin family from Gullen Gamble Merino stud at Yeoval, longtime buyers of Wallaloo Park rams paid to top of $6000 for two.
  • Major Victorian ram buyers were BD and DE Field of Avoca, Ipsen Pastoral of Wareek, St Elmo of Stawell. D Brauer of Wonwondah. Mathew Ipsen of Marlborough and Rockview of Nareen.
  • Volume buyers for New South Wales were Keith Mudford from Gilgandra, J&W Gill of Coolah and Deepwater Station of Deepwater.
  • Volume buyers from South Australia included Classings Ltd Of Murray Bridge and Copping and Sons of Avenue Range.
